NHSTE Super Thursdays: One Computer to Alaska
NHPTV Classroom (Durham) will be the host site for broadcast to the GSDLN sites.
Presented by two teachers - Jaci Gagne (formerly Allentown) and Norma Gray (Portsmouth).
Using the Iditarod dog sled race as the main theme, teachers can use one computer or more to integrate technology across the curriculum. During this 2-week live adventure in Alaska, you can meet state standards, build character and citizenship, explore careers, include special needs students, and have lots of fun. During the workshop, you will review working Internet sites and will take home teacher prepared materials for the Iditarod experience.
A Year With Miss Agnes by Kirkpatrick Hill, about Alaska in 1948, is read in the 4th grade at Dondero School, Portsmouth. During this workshop, you will learn how you can integrate technology into the present-day curriculum by teaching reading from this book as an example.
Target audience: classroom teachers, preservice education students and faculty.
Standard: NETS*T II

This hands-on session, covering both the MarcoPolo and NHEON websites, will excite the participants with the possibilities of new learning explorations.
