NHSALT represents one
of fifty state leadership projects
supported by the Gates Foundation.
It has been recognized as a noteworthy
program for leadership development
by the National Staff Development
Council (NSDC).
NHSALT began work with its first cohort
group in the Summer of 2002. The program
is currently completing its
second
year of implementation.
To date, 160 school leaders have
participated in the project which focuses
on three
themes:
- instructional leadership,
- technology, and
- change
The training
addresses the six ISLLC (Interstate
School
Leaders Licensure Consortium) standards
for
school administrators. One of
the components of the project requires
participant
attendance at four regional cohort
sessions during the school year.
These convenings are facilitated
by higher
education faculty from:
- Keene
State
College,
- Plymouth State University,
- Rivier College, and
- Southern
New Hampshire University.
The project’s
emphasis on job-embedded professional
development
is further enhanced by the
inclusion of the NH Principal-in-Residence
who is responsible for site visitations
to all principals and superintendents
to:
(1) assist in updating
each
school
leaders’ e-portfolio;
(2) consult on technology integration
and the implementation
and assessment of each participating
school’s LoTI (Level
of Technology Implementation)
survey;
(3) provide
training and support to
schools in technology integration,
higher order
thinking skill development,
instructional design, assessment,
organizational
and curriculum development;
(4) collaborate on the
development
of short and long
range solutions to school
based issues.
